The first joint conference for women held in North America took place in Toronto in June.

More than 200 women came together from the United States and Canada as part of the 2018 Women’s Leadership Conference, hosted by the Automotive Industries Association of Canada and Women in Auto Care. They heard from a variety of speakers, designed to connect, motivate and empower women.

“This is just the start, in my opinion, of giving women the voice that they need in our industry to further their careers and to further their development in terms of being able to contribute to the industry and contribute to their careers as well,” said Bill Hanvey, president of the U.S.-based Auto Care Association, in an interview with AutoServiceWorld.com.

The event featured speakers like Annie Hotte, Chief People Officer for Montreal-based Uni-Select, public policy analyst Maryscott Greenwood, strategy and negotiation expert Fotini Iconomopoulos and Automotive journalist Petrina Gentile.

The success of the event means similar events will follow.

“Once we’ve gotten to know each other, then we can take this event to a whole other level next year when we do this again,” said AIA vice president France Daviault.
