This past September, Quebec-based Dorval Auto Parts celebrated their 10th anniversary walkathon on behalf of Hope & Cope’s cancer exercise program.
Alex Trichas, co-owner at Dorval Auto Parts, and cousins Nick, Chris and Andre Dimopoulos, along with friend Gus Anagnostaras created this event to raise awareness to cancer patients and survivors and give other people the chance to be a part of the cause.
Over 200 people come to the walkathon every year where they can enjoy being with family, taking a 7 km walk for the cause, followed by BBQ foods, and raffle prizes. The event takes place at Parc St-Maxime in Chomedey, Laval.
“We always tell people, ‘You don’t even have to finish the walk – just come and enjoy yourself,” Chris said. “While people come for the family atmosphere and the free food, after so many years, they are familiar with Hope & Cope and pleased to support the cause.”
“We’re transparent about how much is raised and our event is very cost-effective. That’s why our customers, suppliers, employees, corporate sponsors, family and friends are always there for us,” Alex said.
The family is passionate about their cause and are moved by the courage of cancer survivors who often join in on the walk. “Knowing that patients are motivated to do the walk spurs us on even more,” Andre said.
After hosting their 10th anniversary walk, Alex, Nick, Chris, Andre and Gus were able to present a $69,000 cheque to Hope & Cope’s Board of Directors.
“Speaking on behalf of the entire Hope & Cope family, we thank you for your outstanding and sustained commitment to our cause,” said Suzanne O’Brien, chair of Hope & Copes’ board of directors.
The next Dorval Auto Parts walkathon will be September 9, 2018. For more information click here.
