New light vehicle sales down 3.7% in September



DesRosiers Automotive Consulting is reporting another soft month for new car sales in Canada.

Total new light vehicle sales decreased 3.7% in September 2019, compared to September 2018. Units sold fell from 172,974 in September 2018 to 166,488 units sold in September 2019, the consulting firm reports in its latest newsletter.

Passenger cars were especially hard hit, falling 18%, while light trucks posted a modest gain of 1.9%.

The decrease in total light vehicle sales was reflected across nearly all provinces with the exception of Newfoundland which secured a 2.0% sales increase.

Year-to-date new light vehicle sales settled at 1.50 million units, down 4.1% from 2018 when 1.57 million units were sold.

Most regions reported sales decreases year-to-date with Prince Edward Island proving to be an exception thanks to a 5.6% sales increase.
