SSGM Product Test: Environment Air Enviroseal

Looking for a way to boost A/C service profits and solve minor system leaks? Environment Air’s Enviroseal is a multi-component A/C system additive that performs several functions. The primary use is as a system sealant, but Enviroseal adds conditioners that rejuvenate hoses, seals and gaskets. If the rupture is too large for the sealant to plug, a fluorescent dye aids in leak detection. The product also contains a lubricant additive, which helps circulate system oil. The product was tested on a 1990 Honda Civic, which has been retrofitted for R134a and had developed a noisy compressor. The compressor type was a Matsushita, and exhibited a loud ticking noise at idle and part throttle operation.
The Enviroseal product is introduced as a conventional sealant product through the low-pressure port (although it can be introduced on the high side if necessary) with the can inverted. Environment Air offers a device called the “Enviro Tee” which allows filling the system while monitoring pressures, although it’s not absolutely necessary for conventional filling.
The system showed a noticeable improvement in compressor noise, which was almost totally eliminated, while vent temperatures dropped by about four degrees Fahrenheit, probably due to the lubricity of the additive and it’s effect on the weak compressor.
Enviroseal won’t rebuild a dead or seriously worn compressor, but as a “tune up” product with the added benefit of a permanent sealant and leak tracer, it’s a sensible upsell for either older systems that need to last a little longer, or recently serviced systems as a maintenance item.
