Oldsmobile to disappear

Oldsmobile to disappear

General Motors has confirmed the rumors, and the venerable Oldsmobile brand will be phased out over the next few years.

Citing the need to focus resources on shorter life cycles and innovative products, General Motors of Canada president and general manager Maureen Kempston Darkes stated: “We will be talking to every Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealer across the country to discuss with them how to make this a smooth transition. While it’s sad to be phasing out the venerable Oldsmobile name, we think that this will allow GM and our dealers to focus our product development, engineering, manufacturing, marketing and retail resources on the core Chevrolet products and enhance our overall lineup.”

GM of Canada has 477 dealers across Canada that sell the Oldsmobile brand. GM of Canada reported Oldsmobile sales last year of just under 30,000 units.
