Head Bolt Tightening Uses the Torque-Angle Method

Head service on the 1.6 Alpha now uses the torque angle method already approved for Hyundai’s Beta engine series. First tighten the bolts in the order shown to 23-27 Nm (230-270 kg/cm or 17-20 lb.ft.) After all ten are done, start over again, and using a torque angle gauge, tighten an additional 60-62 degrees. Then go through all ten again following the same procedure and repeat the torque angle another 60-62 degrees.
