Exide Battery ceases Canadian automotive battery production

Exide Canada Inc., which will cease production of automotive batteries at its Vaughan, Ontario plant on November 30, has launched a feasibility study to determine if its plant can be converted to the production of industrial batteries. The Vaughan plant employs about 300 people, of which 220 are represented by the CAW. The initiative is part of a larger Exide Corporation program that is restructuring its North American and aftermarket businesses for lower production costs. Exide has been operating in Canada for 80 years.
