Dodge in Pursuit of Police Car Market…

Dodge in Pursuit of Police Car Market with Hemi Charger

Dodge will reenter the police car market this fall with the new 2006 Dodge Charger police vehicle, returning to a market that Chryler Corporation vehicles dominated in the 60’s and 70’s. “With a strong police heritage, cutting-edge technology, rear-wheel drive and available HEMI power, Dodge Charger provides the ultimate police car package to meet modern-day law enforcement needs,” said Mike Accavitti, Vice President, Marketing, DaimlerChrysler Canada.

Production of the 2006 Dodge Charger and Dodge Magnum police vehicles will begin in the fall of 2005 at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario alongside the 2006 Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. The Dodge Charger police vehicle will be available with a 5.7-litre HEMI V-8 engine that produces 340 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 390 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. Dodge Charger police vehicles equipped with HEMI engines will be able to go from zero to 96 km/h (0-60 mph) in 6.0 seconds.

Other features will include an electronic five-speed automatic transmission with an Electronically Modulated Converter Clutch (EMCC), heavy-duty brakes and linings, an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with emergency brake assist, all-speed traction control and four-wheel ABS. Familiar police modifications include a high-output alternator and battery, calibrated speedometer, external oil cooler, high capacity cooling system, column shifter and a special wiring harness. The 2006 Dodge police vehicles will be available to federal, provincial and municipal police departments in the fourth quarter of 2005, with pricing announced at that time.
