The fourth ACDelco Technician of the Millennium contest is underway. This competition tests the skills and technical know-how of top technicians across Canada and the United States. The year-long competition culminates in a hands-on diagnostics show-down that sees one skilled participant crowned as the “Technician of the Millennium IV”. The 2002-2004 competition drew more than 5000 registrants and a Canadian winner – David Wiebe of Crestview Auto Service in Saskatoon.
The contest is divided into three phases and is open to both Canadian and American members of the ACDelco Total Service Support (TSS) program. The technicians will go through 3 phases including an online exam, with semi-finalists competing in a hands-on challenge at the Regional Competitions in spring 2006 where they will diagnosis and repair a vehicle. The top-ranked Canadian finalists, one from each region, will go head-to-head with five American counterparts. The title of the Technician of the Millennium IV, will be awarded to the technician who performs all of the necessary repairs with the highest proficiency rating, in the shortest amount of time. The winner will be crowned in the Fall of 2006. All phase winners will receive a number of prizes including tools, accessories and diagnostic equipment. The TSS program provides technical training and marketing support for Independent Service Centres.
