Why drivers keep ignoring car faults

More than half of drivers admit to continuing to drive even after spotting a fault with their vehicle — and the most common issues they ignore could land them in dangerous situations.
A new investigation by Uswitch found that 57 per cent of motorists knowingly drive with a fault in their car, putting themselves and others at risk. The most commonly ignored issues are tires, wipers, windshields, and lights, all of which play a critical role in road safety.
Tire-related problems top the list, with 53 per cent of those who ignored faults citing underinflated or worn tires. Driving with defective tires is dangerous, the group emphasized, noting the increased risk of skidding and poor braking.
Wipers and windshields are also frequently overlooked, the research found. While they may seem like minor annoyances, malfunctioning wipers or a cracked windshield can seriously impair visibility, Uswitch noted.
So why are drivers putting off repairs? The top reasons include being in the process of arranging a fix (38 per cent), financial constraints (10 per cent) and not realizing the issue was serious (10 per cent).
