TRW Expands in Eastern Europe

TRW Expands in Eastern Europe

TRW Automotive’s Engineered Fasteners & Components business today announced that it has expanded operations in the growing market of Eastern Europe with the addition of a new plant in Bytca, Slovakia.
TRW Automotive Slovakia s.r.o., a subsidiary of TRW Automotive Holdings Corp., will manufacture interior and cockpit components.
The plant is expected to employ up to 200 employees by the end of 2008.
Located 20 kilometers from Zilina, the 6,000 square meters of operating space will initially be equipped with assembly lines, with the intention of adding local molding capacity and potentially enhancing the process with painting and printing at a later stage.
John Plant, president and chief executive officer, said: “The establishment of a plant in Bytca was a strategic decision to reflect the growth of our customer base in the rapidly growing Eastern European region.
“We have plans to expand our presence in this market for this product line as part of TRW’s overall strategy of developing our manufacturing footprint in alignment with vehicle manufacturer assembly sites.”
TRW first established its presence in Slovakia when it acquired a motor manufacturing facility in Nove Mesto to support the growth of its electrically powered steering systems portfolio.
Headquartered in Livonia, Michigan, USA, the company, through its subsidiaries, has facilities in 28 countries and employs approximately 63,800 people.
