Ontario Service Provider Forum Inspires Shop Professionals

More than 200 aftermarket professionals made the 5th Annual Ontario Automotive Service Providers Forum a resounding success.

The event was organized by the Automotive Industries Association of Canada and was held at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ont.

Presentations by notable industry analyst Chuck Seguin, who provided insights into shifting car dealer strategies, the AIA’s own Jason Kerr provided important insights in the Canadian Automotive Service Information Standard, and James Shields, who offered technical insights into the Car of Tomorrow, which is really mostly here today, provided a solid backdrop to four presentations by service providers themselves interspersed throughout the day.

Alan Beech, of Beech Motorworks, Hamilton, Ont., provided a strong presentation on effective customer retention techniques. Roy’s Service Centre, Orangeville, Ont., owner. Roy Hinbest was joined by son Michael for an extended discussion about their successful preventative maintenance program that keeps customers tied to the shop even when they purchase a new vehicle. John Edelman, Haldimand Motors, Cayuga, Ont., gave an inspirational presentation on what they do to keep staff by helping them see their role as more than an employee of the large used car operation. The final service provider presentation was from Leroy Martin or Leroy’s Auto Care, Elmira, Ont., who spoke eloquently of his journey to finding out how to best measure and improve shop productivity and efficiency, getting beyond blame and negativity to a view of teamwork and client advisor.

The day was capped off by a high-energy presentation by legendary Toronto Argonaut Michael “Pinball” Clemens, who offered his views on living a life of service to those around you.
