However, inspectors may also be monitoring for other workplace hazards.
Inspectors will also be conducting after hours (evening) and weekend field visits during this blitz and may also be visiting greenhouse and mushroom farming operations.
Inspectors will focus on the adequacy of training and education of workers and supervisors who are involved in the operation of forklifts and lifting devices in their workplaces. There will also be an emphasis on providing a safe work environment, including pedestrian traffic, walkways, and appropriate access and egress to and from work areas, barriers and warning signs, and the provision of signallers where required.
They will also check on the suitability of the equipment and any attachments being used and ensure they are being maintained in good condition. Forklift/lifting device related policies and programs, including emergency procedures may also be reviewed.
The inspectors should also be insuring that Health and Safety Representatives or Joint Health and Safety Committees are in place where appropriate and that they are functioning as required.
