New business looks to change up the repair industry

InstaMek, a new business expanding to Saskatoon this fall, brings automotive repairs to consumers’ doorsteps.

The business was originally started in Edmonton by two friends, Uzair Ahmed and Asem Alsaadi, but has started to branch outwards. The company’s business enables customers to schedule an appointment and have their vehicle conveniently repaired at their work or home.

“It gives the consumers a lower price because there’s no overhead of a shop,” Ahmed notes in an article for the CBC. “It gives freedom to the mechanics to pick whatever job they want, when they want, how they want to work it.”

Although this business model works for small repairs, the article notes that the company will not be able to do bigger repairs such as transmission or engine switches. One problem that may arise, as a commenter notes on the CBC article, is when the little jobs turn into big ones, and the technician doesn’t have the resources to complete it.
