FCA U.S. Ceases Use of Takata Airbag…

FCA U.S. Ceases Use of Takata Airbag Inflators

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles U.S. has announced that it will cease NAFTA-market production of vehicles equipped with non-desiccated ammonium-nitrate Takata air-bag inflators by next week.

Unsold vehicles that are equipped with these airbags will be identified to customers. Customers will also be informed that the vehicles will be recalled in the future.

The NHTSA has recalled vehicles with these Takata inflators, which can degrade over time with exposure to humidity and deploy with excessive force.

FCA expects global production will end by mid-September.
