Four Seasons Inc., a division of Standard Motor Products, announced the availability of replacements parts for General Motors Electronic Viscous (EV) cooling fan systems. The GM EV Fan Clutch uses the electronic engine performance data stream and a mechanical thermo-coupler to determine the necessary fan engagement time, providing a pulse width signal that keeps the vehicle running at optimum fuel efficiency and prevents overheating. The PCM uses sensor inputs from the coolant sensor, intake air temperature sensor, transmission oil temperature, speed sensor, A/C system pressure sensors and an internal thermocouple. The PCM then monitors the fan speed using a three-wire Hall Effect sensor on the clutch, which send a voltage back on the signal line.
