Three Canadians are amongst eight service professionals who will be going to Las Vegas to participate as Regional Semi-Finalists in ACDelco’s Technician of the Millennium IV challenge.
The Canadian semi-finalists are David Jaggard of Eccles Auto Service Inc. in Dundas, Ont., Phil Taekema of Woodriver Valley Automotive Service in Moncton, N.B and Tom Bischoff of Williams Automotive Service in Kelowna, B.C.
The technicians in the challenge had to diagnose and repair pre-determined problems in a vehicle. Each participant was judged on their professionalism and accuracy of their diagnosis, and the repairs done to the vehicle.
Tom Bischoff said his win was a pleasant surprise, and he put it down to coming prepared for the challenge and concentrating on the tasks at hand. He feels his win is not only something to be personally proud of, but also showcases the professionalism of the independent service provider industry as a whole.
“I feel great,” said David Jaggard. “At the shop, we try to stay up on modern technology, and the ACDelco training has been top notch. (ACDelco) has good material and that helps puts us in a unique place amongst other technicians.”
The eight winners represent each of ACDelco’s regions and will face each other at ACDelco’s National Technician of the Millennnium IV Finals in Las Vegas on October 27, 2006. The winner of that challenge will win some US$41,000 in prizes, including a 2006 GM vehicle.
