As vehicle technology advances, shop leaders must take a more strategic and connected approach to adaptation. Ongoing training is essential to stay current with advanced diagnostics, ADAS, and evolving vehicle platforms, supported by regular software updates and the right tooling. Shop setup also plays a role — efficient layouts and proper tool placement improve workflow and profitability.
Customer experience is equally critical. Transparency through digital inspections, clear communication and education builds trust, drives repeat business and supports natural lead generation. Being part of a strong network strengthens this effort, giving shops access to shared knowledge, proven tools and a community where collaboration makes everyone better.
Attracting talent starts with building stronger connections to trade schools, community programs and local outreach, introducing the industry earlier as a viable, technology-driven career path with real opportunity.
Retention is driven by culture and support at the shop level. Clear career pathways, ongoing technical training and access to the right tools and education allow technicians to see the trade as a long-term profession. Being part of a broader network also plays a role; shared resources, mentorship, and corporate-backed programs reduce friction for shop owners and create a more sustainable environment for developing and retaining skilled technicians.
The challenge will be the pace and cost of technological advancement as vehicles grow more complex. The opportunity lies in leveraging scalable, future-ready solutions and strong networks that turn complexity into a competitive advantage through shared expertise, supplier access, and coordinated marketing.
