Aisin transforms its aftermarket business

At AAPEX 2024, Aisin Corporation announced plans to reshape its global aftermarket strategy by transitioning into a total parts and service provider.

The company announced it is creating Aisin Aftermarket & Service of America, Inc., a new company formed by merging AWTEC, a transmission remanufacturing arm, with Aisin World Corp. of America’s (AWA) aftermarket business unit.

The new company, set to be operational by April 2025, aims to streamline operations and expand product offerings to meet diverse customer needs.

“This evolution in the way we do business in the global aftermarket will transform the experience for our customers,” said Scott Turpin, President and CEO of AWA. “There are many exciting developments underway at Aisin.”

Aisin plans to extend its portfolio beyond in-house brands, sourcing a wide range of maintenance products such as wiper blades, high-quality lubricants and batteries. The enhanced inventory will complement existing offerings like cooling systems, drivetrain components and chemicals.

Globally, Aisin’s aftermarket presence spans 36 locations in 17 countries. Each region will focus on locally tailored product lines.

“What we’re seeing in today’s market is an opportunity to evolve – to leverage our comprehensive strengths and global network to further support the automotive community,” said Masahiro Shiiya, president of Aisin’s global aftermarket company.

Aisin Aftermarket & Service of America will continue expanding its remanufacturing capabilities, enhancing efficiency while maintaining a seamless experience for customers and suppliers. The company will also work closely with Aisin Sales Latin America (ASLA), leveraging recent strategic acquisitions to strengthen its position in the region.

“This merger makes us more nimble and flexible” said Dwayne Bates, AWA senior vice president of aftermarket sales. “Beyond opening doors to more opportunities and strengthening our alignment internally, the restructure should be seamless to our customers and suppliers.”

Leadership for the new entity will include Turpin, Bates, and general manager Tomoyuki Furuta. The restructuring is not expected to impact jobs or facilities.
