Aisin says the move, set to take effect Jan. 1, 2012, will enable it to expand its product base in North America.
In North America, ADVICS’ brake products, including pads, calipers, brake hydraulics, and boosters, have been marketed by Aisin through its sales network. The new arrangement means ADVICS will now sell, service, and distribute aftermarket brake products.
“This transition has been part of the overall, combined strategy of Aisin and Advics since the beginning,” says Bob Clark, director of aftermarket sales for Aisin World Corp. of America. “We are taking the next, logical step in the development of a relatively young, but healthy company which enjoys a solid foothold in the North American Aftermarket business.”
The ADVICS Group was established globally in July 2001, when Aisin, Denso Corporation, Sumitomo Electric Industries, and Toyota Motor Corporation joined together to create a company to develop and sell automotive brake systems. Aisin has since produced and supplied components for Advics’ brake system development.
ADVICS and Advics will share exhibit booth space at the upcoming Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo in Las Vegas. Clark says executives from both companies, including Aisin World Corp. of America president Mike Saito, will be on hand to discuss the transition.
Aisin Group is headed by Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd., with corporate offices in Kariya City, Aichi, Japan. Its products include brakes, transmissions, drive train, chassis, body and information-related systems and components, and engine-related parts. In North America, the Aisin Group has 28 manufacturing, R&D and sales centers, and approximately 8,000 associates. With consolidated sales of more than $22 billion, the company employs more than 73,000 people world wide.
ADVICS is a supplier of electronic brake systems and foundation brakes. The company, which has worldwide operations in six countries, and consolidated sales of nearly $4 billion, employs nearly 3,000 people.
