Randall Moore honoured by AIA, Manley speaks of importance of auto industry to Canada

Randall Moore of Mr. Transmission was presented with the AIA Distinguished Service Award during the opening of the AIA aftermarket conference for executives in Quebec City.

The award is presented in recognition of service and outstanding leadership given to the growth and development of the Canadian aftermarket industry.

In his short acceptance speech, Moore said, “I am thrilled to be a part of a great organization and industry that has done so much for so many and yet we realize that we have only just begun.”

Moore has been involved in the automotive industry for over 35 years, and has been heavily involved in the AIA since 1992. He served as Chairman of the Board in 2000, and has volunteered as Chair of several committees.

During his often light-hearted speech, Former Deputy PM John Manley emphasized the importance of the automotive industry in Canada and the United States.

“In Canada, one person in seven is involved with the automotive industry. In Ontario, that number is one in six,” said Manley.

The former Liberal Party Cabinet Minister then went on to comment on the sometimes frosty relationship between Canadians and President George W. Bush.

“Canadians need to be a little bit more mature in terms of President Bush,” said Manley. “If you are running your auto-shop, and you have one customer that buys 87 per cent of what you make, you don’t have to necessarily like the guy. Well, the United States buys 87 per cent of what Canada makes. Access to that market, remains the most important issue for Canadian business,” said Manley.
