Wal-Mart Canada to Introduce Warehouse Clubs in Select Markets

Wal-Mart Canada has announced that it will launch members-only warehouse clubs in select markets this fall. Phase one will see the opening of four to six SAM’S CLUBS in Ontario, with the first Clubs expected to open in the fall of 2003. The new outlets will be more than 100,000 square feet in size, and specific locations will be confirmed over the coming months. The Clubs will target Canadian small-business operators and consumers. Merchandise will include batteries, tires and auto supplies. Established in 1994 and headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Wal-Mart Canada operates 207 stores nationwide, employing 52,000.
