Organizers of the annual “Shad’s R&R” golf tournament for charity expect to sell out both 18-hole courses at Station Creek Golf & Country Club in Gormley, Ont.
It would be a record number for the aftermarket event that raises money for muscular dystrophy research.
This year’s event, the 46th in its history, will tee-off June 13 with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
Shad’s has raised more than $5,000,000 so far and has been a staple of the automotive aftermarket social calendar since it was founded in 1973. It is the biggest single-day fundraiser in the Canadian automotive aftermarket and routinely draws over golfers from automotive companies across the country and the United States.
This event was first initiated by Fred Shaddick and a group of aftermarket professionals in 1973 after skipping work to play golf. Wagers placed throughout the day were donated to a worthy cause and the Annual Shad’s R&R golf tournament was born. The “R and R” stands for “Remorse and Regret.”
“A contribution of $5 million for a charity of our size is remarkable,” said Barbara Stead-Coyle, CEO of Muscular Dystrophy Canada, at last year’s event.
