Zero Emission Fleet Hits the Streets…

Zero Emission Fleet Hits the Streets in Africa

Renault-Nissan Alliance has provided a fleet of mass-produced, zero-emission vehicles as a shuttle service for delegates attending the 2011 United Nations Climate Change conference in Durban, South Africa.
The fleet of vehicles is meant to highlight the benefits of green transportation at the 17th annual Conference of Parties-COP17-which aims to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system.
The electric vehicles can be charged from purely renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power-a technology that is in line with COP17 goals and reducing the impact of climate change.
Nissan has already sold more than 20,000 LEAF EVs on three continents. And Renault recently began selling its Kangoo Z.E., a light commercial vehicle, and in the near future it will introduce the Renault Fluence Z.E. luxury sedan, followed by Twizy, an urban two-seater.
Renault-Nissan says it plans to sell 1.5 million zero-emission cars by 2016.
Both the LEAF and Twizy vehicles were used for the shuttle service and were available for test drives during the conference.
