Canadian drivers continue to favour practicality over performance when it comes to their preferred vehicles, according to new research from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants (DAC).
The firm’s latest survey asked Canadians what type of vehicle they would most like to own, and the results reveal a clear preference for utility.
Sport utility vehicles led the list, with 36.1 per cent of respondents naming an SUV as their top choice. Sports cars remain far behind at 12.6 per cent, showing a trend toward versatility and everyday usability rather than speed or luxury.
Sedans came in second at 23 per cent and pickup third at 14.2 per cent.
Colour preferences were similarly conservative. Black was the most popular choice at 27.6 per cent, followed by blue at 14.9 per cent and white at 14.3 per cent. Red ranked fourth at 12.1 per cent, adding a splash of boldness to an otherwise subdued palette.
Andrew King, managing partner at DAC, noted that the findings reflect remarkable consistency year over year. “Last year Canadians were most likely to wish for a black SUV, and for 2025 they remained remarkably consistent,” he said.
