Plews & Edelmann has introduced a complete electric power steering repair category designed to eliminate the need for costly full rack replacements on millions of modern vehicles.
The expanded offering includes EPS drive belt kits, torque sensor replacements, couplings, and proprietary service tools, delivering more than 50 per cent cost savings compared to rack replacement while restoring full power steering assist using common hand tools.
“The industry treated EPS failure as a rack problem,” said Dan Billie, CEO of Plews & Edelmann. “In many cases, it was a belt problem, and that changes the entire repair approach.”
In many belt‑driven EPS systems, a worn or broken internal belt causes steering to revert to manual mode. Traditionally, this failure required complete rack replacement, often exceeding $1,000 in parts and involving reprogramming and realignment. Edelmann EPS drive belt kits address the root cause by providing all required repair components in one package, along with rack‑specific installation instructions. No module re‑flash, realignment, or specialized diagnostic equipment is required.
Replacement motor couplings further expand coverage across millions of domestic and import vehicles, offering targeted repairs where rack replacement costs can exceed $1,700. Torque sensor replacements address another common EPS failure point, restoring consistent steering assist and system reliability.
Together, these solutions enable same‑day repairs, reduce downtime, and expand service options in a category previously limited to replacement‑only repairs.
“By developing a purpose‑built repair solution for EPS systems, we’re giving technicians the ability to service a category that was previously replace‑only,” added Anthony Holguin, director of category management.
