CARFAX Canada reported that 393,200 vehicles were logged with at least one past accident in the first half of 2026, accounting for approximately $5.4 billion in insurance and owner repair costs. The figure represents nearly 58% of the total vehicle accident volume recorded across all of 2025.
Beyond collision claims, the report uncovered 23,700 weather-damaged vehicles nationwide. Alberta led weather-related claims with over $150 million in damages—97% of which stemmed from hail—followed by Ontario ($23 million) and Quebec ($1 million).
CARFAX Canada emphasized that access to accurate damage history is critical for both vehicle acquisition and resale valuation, while helping buyers and service providers identify potential fraud such as odometer rollbacks and liens.
