The search is officially on for the next leader of MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers.

The association has tapped APA Search to lead the recruitment process, marking the formal start of its leadership transition as current president Paul McCarthy prepares to step into the CEO role at MEMA, The Vehicle Suppliers Association, in January 2026. In May, Bill Long announced his retirement at the end of this year.

“We are excited to work with APA Search to identify a visionary and results-driven leader who will continue to elevate the voice of aftermarket suppliers — across the automotive, commercial vehicle and remanufacturing sectors — and strengthen the association’s role in advocacy, industry leadership and member value,” McCarthy said in an announcement.

APA Search’s role will be to help MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers find a president who can carry forward the association’s mission as the industry rapidly evolves. The incoming president will oversee key initiatives, including public policy advocacy, market research, member programs and major industry events like AAPEX and Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW).

McCarthy, who has led MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers since 2019, has been a strong advocate for Right to Repair and has helped guide the association through a period of transformation. As incoming CEO of MEMA, the announcement said, he will represent the full spectrum of vehicle suppliers — from original equipment to aftermarket and commercial vehicle segments — in what is the largest manufacturing sector in the U.S.

This is not the only leading aftermarket association looking for a new leader. Last month, AIA Canada announced that it had hired an agency to help find a successor for president and CEO J.F. Champagne.
