I would just like to take a minute to mention the Canadian automotive jobber aftermarket industry, is missing an industry icon after May 31 this year.
Ron Surcon of Lorron Agency in Winnipeg has covered the prairie provinces for more than 47 years and has now decided it is time to retire. Just to put that into context, fuel was 23 cents a litre and it probably took the average rep almost one full minute to dial a customer on a rotary phone when Ron started on the road.
Over his career, Ron has represented the likes of CRC Canada, Autoline, Mevotech, Plasti-Kote, Associated Equipment, SafetyWhips, SWS Warning Lights Inc. Robinair/OTC, Dynaline and a host of others as well.
Professional, prepared, loyal and with a sneaky sense of humour, if he worked with you, you got treated with class.
If he sold for you, give him a call, wish him well and say thanks — and maybe send him a good cigar for smoking on the front porch at the cottage.
If he sold to you, give him a call, wish him well and make a date to buy him a sandwich at Rae and Jerry’s, because he probably got you a good deal.
If you sold against him, you should send him a bottle and thank your lucky stars he retired because your job may have finally gotten easier.
They won’t make many more like Ron.
All the best Ron, I hope retirement treats you as well as you treated us.
Regards,
Eric Barnsley
