Specialty & Performance Update: Canadian Classic Cars in Print

Canadian classic car enthusiasts may want to check out “Canadian Classics,” a new magazine produced out of Prince Edward Island.

Our resident Mopar nut, production manager Gary White, recently came across the magazine’s web site, www.canadianclassicsmag.com, and ordered a subscription. Now he won’t part with his copies. He says it’s worth checking out. We’ll have to take his word for it.

Durakon Industries has announced the retirement of its president and CEO David W. Wright. Wright was a co-founder of the company and has been president since 1996. He is also a founding member of the Truck Cap & Accessory Association. William S. Wade has succeeded him as president and CEO of Durakon.

Karbelt Enhances Customer Service

Performance warehouse distributor Karbelt Speed & Custom has enhanced its customer service with a number of sales department changes.

Randall Perks, general manager of Karbelt, has announced that Dave Foster has been promoted to sales manager. Foster first worked for Karbelt from 1988 to 1991 and, after a three-year stint at Performance Improvements, returned to Karbelt as wholesale inside sales representative in 1994. In his new role he will manage the sales team and continue to serve customers.

In addition to this promotion, two new sales associates have joined the company.

Les Morris has worked in the aftermarket since 1964 and is a performance enthusiast with a special interest in street rods. His past experience includes companies such as Performance Improvements and Northern Performance/Marcor. He is also a past member of the NHRA and the NSRA.

Gary Heavysege has also joined the sales team at Karbelt. His experience in the performance business is extensive, including a decade of competitive racing, touring on the ISCA show circuit, being involved in car show production and management and, most recently, being involved in marine performance sales.

Satisfied Brake Sponsors Motorola Cup

Satisfied Brake Products has signed on as an official sponsor of the Motorola Cup road racing series for production-based cars.

Satisfied has elected to sponsor the series despite the fact that it currently does not have a performance friction pad for racing. “Not only is it the perfect marketing vehicle for our product line,” says Satisfied president Stewart Kahan, “but we will use the series to further our extensive R&D program. We plan on working with experienced Motorola Cup teams to develop a performance racing brake pad.”

Back-To-The-Future F1 Brake Technology

Federal-Mogul Corporation is aiming to capture Formula 1 Grand Prix glory with a new Ferodo brake pad operating on a cast iron disc.

According to the company, research data shows that the Ferodo DS4000 pad can attain a higher peak braking value than carbon-carbon brakes in the contemporary Formula 1 environment.

Historically, an organic brake system, the Ferodo DS11, was supplied to most Grand Prix winners. Research now shows that an advanced pad operating on a cast iron disc can provide a performance advantage over carbon-carbon pads and discs.

The new pad is a development of the DS3000 pad designed initially for super touring cars in Europe.
