Shell Canada has acknowledged a fuel tank sender unit and fuel pump clogging problem caused by additives used in the firm’s gasolines. Problems were reported with DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Acura, Volvo and Hyundai models from several regions of the country, with "hot spots" in Alberta and Quebec. Shell removed the offending additive in March. Shell Canada, facing a class action lawsuit in B.C. over the issue, has settled approximately 2500 motorist claims to date. Customers who have experienced the fuel system issues can contact Shell’s Customer Support Centre at 1-866-900-9100 or the general inquiry line at 1-800-661-1600. Shell Canada will continue to reimburse individual customer claims for related repair expenses.
“To our affected customers, we extend our sincere apology for any inconvenience this problem may have caused. Shell Canada stands behind the quality of our products. All of our fuels meet or exceed Canadian standards as well as our own stringent internal specifications. We want to reassure our customers that our gasolines are appropriate for use in all automobiles and driving conditions,” said Terry Blaney,Vice President, Marketing, Shell Canada Limited.
