Car makers in the United States are moving against California and other states that are attempting to put in tough new rules on greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks.
The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a group that represents the Big Three North American Auto makers, Toyota and five other car and truck manufacturers, said California and other states attempts to regulate greenhouse emissions has been based on misinformation about the costs and benefits of such regulations to the public. California and 11 other U.S. states are looking at a 30 per cent cut in vehicle emissions by 2016.
According to the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the proposed cuts to emissions would not in fact help in the fight against global warming, and would, in fact, adversely impact industry.
Currently, the U.S. EPA is hearing testimony on whether it should grant a waiver under the Clean Air Act so California and the other states can put into place their tough emissions rules.
