DaimlerChrysler AG is seeking police help in finding hundreds of newly manufactured transmissions that have failed to show up at plants in Mexico after being loaded onto trucks for shipment.
DaimlerChysler officials told police that 386 transmissions from one Kokomo plant and 95 others from another had not reached their destinations in Mexico. It was not the first time that DaimlerChrysler transmissions, valued at about $1,000 apiece, have gone missing.
“We have been working with local authorities to identify the reason the transmissions are not making their way from two Kokomo plants to various plants in Mexico,” Mary Beth Halprin, a spokeswoman for the automaker, said last week. “This is not a one-time incident. We’ve been tracking the transmissions for a few months trying to find a pattern to the shipment of the transmissions.”
