Federal-Mogul Opts to Retain Healthy Glow

Federal-Mogul Corporation has announced that it plans to retain and grow its Champion automotive glow plug business.
Earlier this month, Federal-Mogul announced plans to keep and aggressively develop its Champion automotive spark plug and windshield wiper business in Europe. The company said at the time that it was assessing the future of the glow plug business. Glow plugs provide ignition in diesel engines similar to spark plugs in gasoline engines.
“After a thorough review of this business, we have determined that Champion glow plugs are strategically important to our growth strategy — particularly our efforts to continue providing world-class components for diesel engines and supporting light-vehicle diesel engine use in Europe and North America,” said Joseph Felicelli, Federal-Mogul’s senior vice president, worldwide aftermarket operations.
A strong glow plug business will help support Federal-Mogul’s leading position as a supplier of powertrain components for diesel engines, he added. “The Champion brand is extremely well-regarded in Europe, as it is around the world,” Felicelli said. “We believe glow plugs are an important part of our broad Champion product line that has a reputation for quality and value with our customers. We will use our global technology base to strengthen our competitive advantage in glow plugs, just as we have done with other Champion products.”
