Dayco Releases VIN Scanning App

Whether you are a professional technician, a DIYer, or work in a parts store, you can now search for Dayco parts by application, VIN or competitive number interchange. Dayco Products has released a new app for smartphones and tablets that features a comprehensive application catalogue.

The unique Dayco app scans the VIN bar code and displays all the Dayco replacement parts, belt routings, installation videos, images and more for that particular vehicle. A ‘Where to Buy’ tab locates all of the Dayco distributors in the area. No need to type in an area code, the smartphone GPS knows the user’s current location and presents all the locations mapped with addresses and phone numbers. “Just tap the phone number and you’re calling that location to order your parts,” says Robert Christy, director of marketing for Dayco.

“We were basically looking into developing a parts look up app, and during the discussions on this, we had to have a VIN decoder like everyone else has.  We had one on our website and we were reprogramming the site. In that development we were out taking pictures of the VIN in my Chevy Van and It had a UPC code underneath the VIN number. The UPC represents the VIN and I said, wouldn’t it be great if we could be scan the UPC code and have all the replacement parts pull up for that vehicle. Other companies have scanners that pull up the year make model info, but no one has linked it to their application data base and to have it pull in replacement parts. So that’s the uniqueness of our product,” explains Christy.

With this app, Dayco has linked to all the parts and all the data related to the parts, like belt routings, technical tips, installation videos, tensioners for each vehicle.  “We are getting all kinds of attention since launching this product,” adds Christy.

Dayco’s application for patent was accepted this summer. The company is currently in discussions with some of its channel partners who want this ability in their own apps.

“Dayco has listened to the customer and realized that we have a responsibility to develop an app that provides real value. No other aftermarket company has developed a VIN scanning tool that displays all the replacement parts, specifications, where to buy and ability to instantly call to order. We are very proud of this patent pending development and plan to continue to use technology to provide innovative solutions for Dayco Customers,” says Christy.

“As we continue adding to our data we are going to be pushing it out to our web site and to our mobiles and apps as we develop them,” says Christy.
