AAPEX Announces Winston Cup Exhibition Race

Organizers of the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) have announced an exciting new program to give show attendees a unique opportunity to meet and see two-time Daytona 500 Champion Michael Waltrip and other Winston Cup drivers and watch them compete in a special exhibition race.
The first-ever "Driven to Rock," presented by AAPEX, will take place Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Bull Ring, a half-mile paved oval track. The event will include four Winston Cup drivers, racing head- to-head in an exhibition test of speed and skill.
The event also provides AAPEX exhibitors a unique and affordable hospitality venue for their customers, according to AAPEX Show Manager Bill Glasgow, Sr., of WT Glasgow, Inc. AAPEX takes place Tuesday, November 4 through Friday, November 7 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.
"Adding this exciting event is just the latest example of how we are working hard to bring increased value and excitement to the complete AAPEX experience," Glasgow said. "There is a natural tie-in between racing and the aftermarket and this event allows AAPEX to bring it all together in one place."
An Evening Full of Action
According to DTR Events L.L.C., organizers of the event, popular Winston Cup racer Michael Waltrip is the first driver to confirm his participation.
"I am excited about participating in this event," Waltrip said. "The companies and individuals that attend AAPEX are the fans that have made Winston Cup racing the enormous success it is today. I am looking forward to meeting the fans and giving them a great night of racing."
Each Winston Cup driver will participate in a free 90-minute autograph session in the grandstands, give live interviews to the crowd, and compete in a 30-lap race. Prior to the race, there will be a concert from an Atlantic Records recording artist or band, autographed merchandise giveaways and local comics performing in the grandstands. The evening will conclude with a late model race driven by local drivers competing for a cash purse.
According to DTR Events, "Driven to Rock" will allow racing fans to tap into the professional and personal insights of iconic racing personalities such as Waltrip. The event provides fans with an up-close and personal feel that is only available in a mass media presentation. The highlight of the evening will be the participation of four Winston Cup drivers providing free autographs and racing against each other for nothing but pride. Also, a live concert, a local race, a comedy show and merchandise giveaways will undoubtedly add to the night.
"Driven to Rock" events have taken place at short tracks around the country. Each event brings a carnival type atmosphere to the evening’s festivities.
