Independent Distributors Limited Joins Bestbuy Distributors

Independent Distributors Limited has joined forces with Bestbuy Distributors.
In an announcement today, Independent Distributors Limited (IDL) president John Brunelle said that the Western Canada buying group has become a shareholder of Bestbuy. The arrangement will see IDL’s 32 members become part of the Bestbuy network, while retaining their local IDL identity. IDL members will continue to have their accounting dealings with IDL’s head office, but will be able to take advantage of Bestbuy’s Mississauga, Ont., warehouse.
"We were looking for a good fit for our members and explored a lot of different options," said Brunelle. "We feel that we and Bestbuy are like minded. We look after our members, but we don’t try to control them."
IDL has been in existence since 1964 with its head office in Moose Jaw, Sask.
Bestbuy president Rod Anderson said that the addition of IDL’s members to the network adds to the buying group’s strength in Western Canada.
"We are a national buying group, but looking for growth opportunities. This gives us tremendous representation in Western Canada." Bestbuy currently has 68 members operating 129 points of sale, but has been underrepresented in Western Canada. The new agreement goes a long way to remedying that situation.
"We’re fighting against the big guys and we wanted to expand our base," said Anderson, adding that the move accomplishes just that.
"We were looking for an agreement that gave us the ability to grow and to solidify our future without compromising, and we have been able to do that," concluded Brunelle.
