Hankook Tire Canada’s now annual survey of drivers from coast to coast provides insight into the driving habits (both good and bad) of Canadians and aims to provide valuable information to keep families safe on the roads each season.
This year’s survey was conducted by Leger in early September with a representative sample size of 1501 Canadian drivers, 19 years of age or older.
Key 2013 Hankook Tire Canada – Winter Tire Index findings and relevant statistics:
·1 in 2 Canadian drivers admit to not scheduling a vehicle maintenance check-up when changing over to winter tires, or do not even change over to winter tires at all.
·In Ontario, 1 in 3 drivers admit to not using dedicated winter tires in the months of November-March.
·1 in 2 Canadian drivers say they have never performed, do not feel comfortable to do so, or do not know how to change a spare tire. Nowhere is this more true than in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
·The majority of respondents from each province confess that they never check on the condition (or existence) of the spare tire in their vehicle.
·6 out of 10 Canadians would stop to try and help their fellow motorist stranded at the side of the road due to a vehicle maintenance issue; only 17% of Canadians would be able to offer any real assistance beyond offering a cell phone.
