Former shop owner killed while on vacation in Mexican

A former technician and shop owner was killed early yesterday morning while on holiday in Mexcio.

Robin Wood, the former owner of Beddis Road Garage on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, was visiting friends in the coastal town of Melaque, Mexico. According to the Gulf Islands Driftwood newspaper, he had also been an automotive technician at a Payless Gas station on the island.

Mexican police confirmed Wood was killed early Tuesday morning at the holiday home of fellow Canadian Arvid Chalmers, a well-known realtor on Salt Spring Island.

In an email to the Gulf Islands Driftwood, Chalmers said there had been a home invasion by two robbers, one of whom had a pistol. Robberies and associated murders are said to be fairly common in the town located between Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco, just north of Manzanillo.
