Alex Wu, manager of 128 Auto Service Centre in Coquitlam B.C. sent us this picture of a mass airflow sensor from a 2001 Ford Focus. The vehicle was towed in with a no start condition.
The technician checked for a vacuum leak, common on these Ford Focuses, and everything looked ok. He plugged in the scanner, looked at all the data and found no mass airflow activities. He then pulled out the mass airflow sensor for inspection, and guess what he found? A leaf sat on the hot wire!
They removed the leaf and it started right away. The previous owner didn’t install the air filter properly and left a gap on the side, allowing a leaf to block the air bypass. This is why it pays to take it to a pro!
