Eaton Unveils its new EV chargers…

Eaton Unveils its new EV chargers for Homes at Electric Mobility Canada Conference

After years of anticipation, Canadians are finally taking delivery of their all-electric vehicles, but with this comes the requirement to purchase and arrange for installation of their very own EV charger.

Eaton’s residential EV Pow-R-Stations come in a wall-mount or pedestal model, and will fully charge an electric car in from six to 24 hours depending on the model. They can be ordered now by the trade through Eaton’s regular distribution channels, or directly by the public, from electricians and electrical contractors.

To help homeowners locate electricians specializing in electric vehicle charging stations, Eaton Corporation has announced a new EV training program for its Certified Contractor Network Program (ECCN). On October 12, an estimated 50 electricians will earn their ECCN certification for Electric Vehicles. They will be the first in Canada to receive this designation.

Says Kevin McIntyre, Alternative Energy Marketing Specialist, Eaton Corporation, “Researching and deciding on a charging station is an entirely new thing for consumers. Finding a well matched service provider can be a challenge, and our new certified network for EVs removes the guess work.”

McIntyre adds, “A projected 10,000 new electrical vehicles will hit the road in Canada in 2012, and the majority of homeowners who purchase an EV will also buy a residential charging station.”

The new Eaton charging stations are designed to be easily installed at households by qualified electricians. Eaton EV Pow-R-Station’s charge cord will connect with the Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi iMiEV and any EV built for the North American market. The retail price of the appliances installed starts at about $2,000.

Homeowners can arrange for an Eaton Certified EV Contractor to visit their home to determine if it can support a charging station. During the inspection, the certified contractor will explain all the steps involved in the install, including required electrical upgrades if applicable. During the actual install, many contractors will use Eaton’s new EV Simulator to immediately test the functionality of the electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) on-site.

The new residential charging products compliment Eaton’s extensive line of Pow-R-Station solutions, including level 2 and DC Quick Charge models for commercial applications. Eaton’s electric vehicle supply equipment is the electric transportation industry’s premier offering of chargers. Eaton is an industry leader in electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) components.
