Derek Chinn of Mevotech LP is the new chair of the Young Executive Society (YES) Committee.
Derek is the Ontario regional manager for Mevotech LP, an industry leader in the re-engineering and manufacture of premium driveline, steering and suspension parts for the automotive aftermarket. Derek is the incoming Chair of Young Executive Society of Canada (YES) and has been an active committee member of the Automotive Industry Association (AIA) since the late nineties.
As chair of YES, Derek will oversee organization engagement, promote its mission and mandate, ensure effective communication with AIA staff, other AIA committees and AIA members. Derek has held a variety of roles over his 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, and will bring a wealth of knowledge and insight to the Young Executive Committee.
Discovering his passion for repairing and improving vehicle performance at a young age, Derek was only 14 years old when started to build his first hot rod. By the age of 17, he was working as an apprentice mechanic. Although he enjoyed the hands-on experience, he preferred the customer facing aspect of his work. His ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels led him to a position in wholesale manufacturing—a role that was not common for people his age.
In-line with the mission and mandate of YES, Derek is committed to the professional development of young industry leaders. Standing firm to the belief that careers in the technical field should be accessible to all, regardless of physical ability or gender, he is driven to give back to an industry that has enriched his life and helped shaped who he is.
