DANATEC EDUCATIONAL SERVICES LTD. CELEBRATES 25 YEARS THIS JUNE

Calgary, AB – Calgary-based and family run Danatec Educational Services Ltd. is celebrating 25 years of providing Workplace Health and Safety Compliance Solutions to clients across Canada, this June.

Incorporated in 1985, today, Danatec is still a privately-held family run organization. If you spend some time at their head-office in Calgary, you’ll quickly see why they have so many long term staff members. With a relaxed-family atmosphere, monthly birthday lunches, flexible work schedules, a 2-day employee Christmas retreat, and numerous other benefits – Danatec is a pretty fantastic place to work. Their numbers prove that as well. In 2008, they celebrated their most profitable year in business. Not too bad for being in the middle of a recession.

Over the past twelve months they also celebrated three, 10-year employee anniversaries. For a staff of 12, that’s pretty impressive. “I’ve been part of Danatec for 10 of those 25 years and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.” Dana Haywood, Order Desk Manager of Danatec says. “We’re fortunate to have a knowledgeable, hard-working team of employees’, agents and distributors who know the business and care about our customers,” says Alina Martin, VP Sales and Marketing, and daughter of Danatec’s President, Ronald J.E. Martin.

The beginnings of Danatec were much more humble than the beautiful, 8000 sq ft office they now operate out of. Danatec’s first books, published in June 1985, were created under contract to Transport Canada. The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Instructors Manual and corresponding TDG Handbooks have been updated many times since and have set the mark for Dangerous Goods publications across Canada. Danatec was also the first company in Canada to publish a consolidated version of the Federal Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations with update service.

Twenty-five year later, Danatec publishes and sells a wide variety of publications, training materials, products and online solutions across a variety of workplace safety topics. “This year alone we will train over 100,000 people online, in the classroom and with our self-teach training materials”, says Jeff Power, VP of Operations, “We are also really excited to introduce two new products this coming fall, DanatecTV and Class 7 Radioactive training materials.” Martin confirms, “We’re growing and changing, industry keeps asking for new materials and that’s exactly what we’re giving them.”

Danatec has also been recognized and won numerous prestigious awards over the last several years including;

  • Hermes Award, Platinum, TDG Online Training
  • Brandon Hall Awards, Silver, WHMIS Online Training
  • Apex Awards, Award of Excellence (twice), WHMIS Self-Teach and Handbook
  • CSTD Awards, Gold WOW Award, WHMIS Product Suite
  • Aurora Awards, Gold, WHMIS Tell Me Your Story DVD

What’s next for Danatec? “The next generation is taking over and I couldn’t be happier," Ron Martin says. "My daughter and her team will continue to grow and change our business. I’m sure the next 25 years will be as amazing, challenging and rewarding as the past 25 have been.”
