Honda has expanded a previously announced recall of certain 2001 through 2003 model-year Honda and Acura vehicles to replace the driver’s airbag inflator in approximately 27,000 vehicles in Canada. Separately, Honda has also determined that 45 additional Canadian vehicles have had affected service parts installed in the process of a collision repair or other vehicle service and these will be included as part of this recall. Affected driver’s airbag inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality.
In Canada, this recall expansion includes certain 2001 to 2003 Honda Accord, Civic, Odyssey and CR-V, as well as certain 2002 to 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 3.2 CL vehicles.
Although there have been no reported incidents in Canada, Honda is aware of several incidents in other markets related to the earlier recalls, and is announcing this new expansion to encourage all owners of included vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive mailed notification from Honda. Notification to the expanded group of customers will begin in late December 2011 or early January 2012.
When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end, in addition to contacting customers by mail, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require an inspection and/or repair by going on-line or by calling. Honda owners can go to www.honda.ca/recalls or call 1-888-9HONDA9; Acura owners can go to www.acura.ca/recalls or call 1-888-9ACURA9.
