Manitoba educates girls on opportunities in skilled trades

Manitoba wants to teach girls about job opportunities within skilled trades.

The Manitoba government has partnered with the River East Transcona School Division to help encourage girls to pursue careers in the skilled trades and other science and technology related professions.

Irvin-Ross, the Family Services Minister, said that Manitoba needs more people working in the skilled trades, and girls have the chance to fill the gap: “Manitoba is experiencing a critical shortage of skilled tradespeople, which means there is a golden opportunity for young women to launch careers in high-paying fields.”

Sparking Interest, an interactive one-day forum for girls in the fifth and sixth grade, will bring in working women within the skilled trades to speak with students about their future careers.
