The Hyundai Genesis and the Ford F-150 took top honours as the North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year respectively at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. This makes Hyundai Motor Co.’s Genesis sedan the first North American Car of the Year Award for the South Korean manufacturer. The Genesis narrowly beat out the Ford Flex, a seven- passenger crossover vehicle, for the honour. It’s been a good year for the Ford F-150 as well. In addition to the honour presented at the Auto Show, it is the best-selling vehicle in the U. S. and was named the 2009 Truck of the Year by Motor Trend magazine in January. The redesigned F-150 topped the 2009 Dodge Ram and the diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz ML320 BlueTEC in the final round of voting. “The best keep getting better,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas. “I think what it says is it’s a broad playing field out there. And those people with a focus on the customer can win.”
