It’s Emergency Preparedness Week and the Automotive Industries Association (AIA) of Canada, through its Be Car Care Aware program, wants to help Canadians get prepared for whatever roadside emergencies may come their way.
“If the unexpected happens, the best thing you can do is be prepared,” said Marc Brazeau, president and CEO, AIA Canada. “A well-packed emergency tool kit puts the resources you need to stay safe at your fingertips.”
Suggested contents for an effective emergency kit include:
Flashlight
Basic first aid kit
Blanket (it can get cold at night and you may not be dressed appropriately)
Running shoes / comfortable shoes (flip flops aren’t terribly helpful when changing a tire or walking to get help)
Non-perishable snacks
Water
Cell phone (always fully charge your cell phone before you hit the road and make sure to include a spare cell phone charger in your tool kit)
Paper map (a GPS won’t be useful if you have no power or signal strength)
Jumper cables
Umbrella / waterproof jacket
Candle in a deep can and matches
A small shovel
