Kia Canada x Variablegrid, offering 3‑year rebate for home EV charging

Kia Canada is expanding its partnership with Variablegrid Adaptive Power Inc. through a new Clean Fuel Regulation program incentive called Variablegrid Plus. According to the announcement, customers can sign up for a 3‑year subscription at EV‑certified Kia dealerships that returns $0.10 per kilowatt‑hour for at‑home charging until 2030.

The release says a Kia driver travelling 20,000 kilometres a year with an EV4 could receive up to $360 annually. Customers who combine the subscription with a Variablegrid in‑home charger can also receive up to $350 in upfront savings on hardware.

Elias El‑Achhab, vice‑president and chief operating officer at Kia Canada, said the expanded partnership offers direct financial benefits to EV owners.

“Kia Canada is the first manufacturer partnered with Variablegrid to extend a direct financial incentive to electric vehicle owners that puts money right back into customers’ pockets,” El‑Achhab said.

Variablegrid’s energy management system uses adaptive load management technology to help older homes add Level‑2 charging without costly electrical upgrades. The system monitors real‑time energy use and adjusts charging power based on available capacity.

Savings can be applied at the time of purchase when customers buy a Variablegrid charger and management system bundled with the 3‑year subscription. Once the subscription is active, customers receive $0.10 per kilowatt‑hour for home charging, with funds available for withdrawal once the balance reaches $50.

The Clean Fuel Regulation program requires gasoline and diesel producers and importers to reduce the lifecycle carbon intensity of their fuels through 2030. Fuel companies can comply by supporting EV adoption, which reduces emissions that would otherwise be generated by combustion vehicles.
