How uncertainty, technology and leadership…

How uncertainty, technology and leadership are affecting the aftermarket

Leaders from across the automotive aftermarket gathered for the MEMA Vision Conference last week to examine key issues affecting the industry.

From near‑term market pressures to long‑term shifts reshaping the sector, with discussions centred on economic uncertainty, technology adoption, workforce challenges and supplier competitiveness, the conference heard from industry experts about how to tackle the road ahead.

The conference opened with a welcome address from MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers president Emily Poladian. Then it was a broad outlook on the aftermarket’s trajectory through the “3 Dragons” session, which brought together perspectives from Wall Street, industry data and economic analysis. Speakers highlighted economic uncertainties, including deglobalization, supply chain fragmentation and geopolitical tensions with China

The “Talk from the Top,” an annual session that provided suppliers with candid feedback from customer CEOs, highlighted expectations around service levels and what’s needed to better align suppliers and their customers.

A central feature of the conference was the presentation of early findings from the MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers 2026 Landmark Study, which looked at what trends are expected to shape the aftermarket over the next decade.

There were also discussions and presentations revolving around AI, reverse mentoring in the aftermarket, political challenges for MEMA like the REPAIR Act and USMCA discussions, as well as a CEO panel that tackled issues like inventory, manufacturing investments and supply chain resistance.

There was an award handed out. The Automotive Aftermarket Charitable Foundation named Automotive Parts Headquarters Inc. as the recipient of its Humanitarian Award. Corey Bartlett, president and CEO, accepted the award on behalf of the company. The award recognizes individuals and organizations in the indsutry, representing outstanding compassion, generosity and service to others.
