Who’s at the wheel?!

If Nissan has any say in it, you might not be driving your own car by the year 2020.

According to Nissan’s CEO, Carlos Ghosn, autonomous cars are where the industry is headed. Nissan and other auto brands have joined tech-companies like Google in their plans to design and produce cars that don’t require human assistance.

Ghosn says that the consumer is still conservative, so for now the aim will be to build autonomous vehicles that simply enhance driving pleasure instead of eliminating it. However, Ghosn believes that fully driverless cars are the future.

The biggest battle automakers will face is gaining approval from government regulators. If Nissan and other brands can build a car that is tested and proved to be road safe, we may soon have a world with fewer drivers and more cars.

What will this mean for the automotive repair world? So long as they don’t start making self-fixing cars, I think we should be safe.
